2026 Juneteenth and Fatherhood Events in Maryland

A number of events will take place in the state of Maryland to commemorate the weekend that includes Juneteenth and Father’s Day.

Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth) briefly describes Juneteenth thus:

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday’s name, first used in the 1890s, is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth, referring to June 19, 1865, the day when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.

There will be several events commemorating Juneteenth and Father’s Day in the Annapolis and Baltimore areas.

The Juneteenth weekend will be observed in Annapolis with two events: a “Carr’s Beach Reunion” free concert on Friday June 19, sponsored by Annapolis Recreation and Parks, and the Annapolis Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday June 20.

The UNIA-ACL Baltimore Division 106 Barca-Clarke will hold a Juneteenth Freedom Day Black Flea Market on June 19 from 2-8 PM at 45 Cliftmont Avenue in the Cliftmont Community back lot, featuring Black-owned food trucks and other attractions.

This weekend also commemorates Father’s Day, and as such there will be several Father’s Day celebrations in family homes across the United States.  At the same time, the Pikes Studio Cinema in Pikesville, owned by Michael Johnson, co-founder of BlackMen Unifying BlackMen, will hold a weekend-long Father’s Day 70’s Classic Black Movie Marathon, starting on Friday June 19 and ending on Sunday June 21.

Baba Charlie Dugger and his organization Camp Harambee The People will hold a Fatherhood-Manhood commemoration at M.U.N.D. Park, East 24th Street and Greenmount Avenue (across from the Greenmount Recreation Center) in East Baltimore, on Saturday June 20 from 1 PM-6 PM.

Contact information for these events is available on the flyers.
