The Philadelphia Middle Passage Ceremony & Port Marker Project is leading the movement to conduct an Ancestral Remembrance Ceremony at Penn’s Landing. Our purpose is to acknowledge Penn’s Landing, and other locations on the Delaware River, as among the over 40 major ports of entry into the US for Africans during the transatlantic human trade; to commemorate the millions of Africans who perished in the Middle Passage; and to establish markers, memorials and commemorations in their memory. We celebrate the triumphant survival of the descendants of those Africans, and their contributions to this nation. Finally, we call for healing and hope for future generations. The Web Site includes Recent Announcements, a Schedule of Events, an introduction to the organizational team and supporters, and contact information.

The fourth Saturday in May brings the annual Afrikan Heritage Walk-A-Thon to Baltimore, Maryland. The participants in the walk begin at the Historic Great Blacks In Wax Museum in East Baltimore and complete their journey at Coppin State University in West Baltimore. Funds raised during the Walk-A-Thon go to help a variety of grassroots efforts to bring Afrikan-centered education to the youth of Baltimore, also known as “Harriet Tubman City” to the activist community. For more information on this annual event, contact the Afrikan Heritage Walk-A-Thon on Facebook: www.facebook.com/afrikanheritagewalkathon, or by email: afrikanheritagewalkathon@ymail.com.
